so i started back to work on the car after finally pulling it out of daily driver service.
the goals for the car for this year are...
1. get rid of weight!
2. get to 500whp on the red
3. come up with some specific setups for street and mod/limited tires
4. get car ready for w2w in st2 class with nasa(by end of the year)

all journeys start with that first step so here goes...

new red installed
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/smack_evo/IMG_0653.jpg

finally got those nagisa braces on
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/smack_evo/IMG_0655.jpg

while the fenders were off...
SPEED HOLES!!!
actually just hoping to vent the fenders a bit better to reduce drag.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/smack_evo/IMG_0663.jpg

losing those first lbs.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/smack_evo/IMG_0650.jpg

also if you're looking for an easy way to remove the sound deadening tar board crap, dry ice is magic.
freezes the stuff and it just pops off in big pieces. no chisling tiny little chips off. the whole rear gas tank area took about 5 minutes.

more to come as things progress...

i know another way you can save weight. Scrape off the black tar looking shit off the underside of car. :D
Wont the holes in the fenders increase drag. Wouldn't it be better if it was just an open gap. Air is hitting the sides of the holes.

they won't increase more than no holes at all which is how they started out :)

my original idea was to cut two slots so there would one piece still between the outer "skin" and the mounting tab but the more i looked at it i didn't like that plan since there is only one bolt in the middle of that whole part of the panel and i didn't want to remove all the structure.
i think the fibreglass would get pretty weak when you remove the material there. that back edge has a couple of curves molded in which gives it it's strength in that area and cutting that all out would make it too easy to crack. at least to me.

Damn, that is serious! Keep us updated. Nice work. I'd be very interested to see if you get to the 500whp with the red.

still trying to decide on running street or modified.
if i go street i'll probably try to get a hold of the new advan neovas(or possible the new nitto).
i ran the r1r's before and still have a set but the new advans sound like they might be the tire to beat.

i don't too much time in it yet. just did this stuff over the weekend mainly.
i need to get going on it though since i'm trying to get tc to do a cage in it and i'll need to get it completely stripped for that.

It's actually pretty practical.. not so much for 'drag'.. but the wheel well is a high pressure area at speed. should actually help with down force.

yeah i just said drag to simplify things but yes it's just to try to help relieve pressure in the wells.
some of the time attack cars i've seen just space the whole lower mount point out by the rocker panel but i don't really like that look myself.

evofegs?

i saw one running once at infineon in norcal last season.
talking to some people at the nasa awards party, it sounds like there are definitely two others that plan on running this season.

and as for socal, i know ed(bueller) is getting his car prepped for st2 down south and i believe he's the first.
he has a build thread going on the socal site.
